- Your choice of web browsers: The mapping application requires a browser
that supports frames and
Javascript. There is no way to view the maps without those features.
If you have a relatively new version of Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, or Internet Explorer,
you should be fine. BUT: if you have the preferences set to disable javascript,
then you'll have to change that. We're also told that it works fine on the
Safari browser for Mac OSX. If you're not sure, just try it. We haven't
tested any other browsers (AOL, Opera, etc.) yet. (If you try one we haven't listed
here, we'd be happy to hear if it works.)
- Browser windows: Each map that you launch will open in its own window.
- Be patient. The nature of the application is such that it might
be a bit slow to respond, especially if you don't have a fast connection.
- Tool help. In the map viewer, if you put your mouse over one of the
tool buttons,
text should appear at the bottom of your browser describing the tool's
function. You can also click on the help button in the map viewer to get
a more complete description of what the various buttons do.
